AUGUST 20th, 2008    Wednesday,   12:05 P.M.   Brownie's in the Burg

Witcoff's Truism: You know you're getting old when everything dries up or leaks.

MEETING: Kelly Wilson took over the podium today in Victor's absence. She opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag. She then asked Wes to lead us in song & Charlie Cahn gave us the prayer.

Kelly thanked our only Greeter today, Claudette Segear.

GUESTS: Ed Henning brought us a past Kiwanis President, Bill Wells. Also, Sharon Taylor from PATH. Charles de Bourbon brought us Kevin Thomas, our State Secretary of Kiwanis International, PA Division.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Our next   Board meeting will be on Tuesday, September 9 th at the Dansbury Depot at 4:30pm. Please mark your calendars and try to attend.

The Installation of Officers,   followed by our Fall Brawl Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 24 th at the Delaware Water Gap. John Taylor will have a sign up sheet and more details on the tournament at a later date.

PA DISTRICT CONVENTION: August 14th thru 17 th in Altoona. Tom Bordigon reported that the emphasis was on Service Leadership, where he felt that our club was doing a pretty good job in that department. He stressed that the place of a meeting or the food should not be the prime reason for Kiwanis, but, the camaraderie & service we perform. Our Michael Frailey did the honors at this convention of installing all the new officers. He said that it was a great weekend and he came back with a lot of enthusiasm.

STROUDFEST to be held on Saturday, August 30 th at Courthouse Square. We will be selling Sausage & Peppers. It will start at 11:00am – 6:00pm. Charles will need help to set up & then some to stay late to tear it down. Trudi had a sign-up sheet with all the volunteers who signed up to help. If you forgot your time slot, please see Trudi at next week's meeting and she will show you the sheet, or call her. Trudi asked that all members should wear a shirt or hat with the Kiwanis logo on it. She will have some extra for those who don't own anything with our logo on it.   Charles will have the list on line. All she has left to do now is for everyone to pray for GOOD WEATHER.

ROSE SALE: Ed Henning will have the order sheets for us at next week's meeting. The cut-off date for orders will be 9/30/08. Deliveries will be made on 10/30/08.

We were issued a membership growth   challenge from the Wilkes-Barre Club for the last 6 months of our fiscal year. The losing club will have to pay $100.00 to the winning club for their favorite charity. Personally speaking, Victor said that he and Michelle will take the member who brings in the most members to dinner in October. Now, that's a deal if I ever heard of one. Do you know of someone who would make a good Kiwanian. Ask them to a luncheon so they can check us out.

Charles is starting a ‘Business Page'. If you would like your business listed, get the info on the business to him along with a head picture of yourself.

50/50: This   week , John Taylor told everyone of the unfortunate happening to Tom Schatzman's son, David & his wife & 1-year old baby. While on vacation, their entire home & all contents were destroyed in a fire. He asked all for their permission to use this week's 50/50 fund and fining,   plus any other contribution we can make to go to David Schatzman & family. All agreed and $289.00 was collected. We shall repeat this again next week. Please come prepared to contribute. Thank you all for your generosity today.

Kelly read a ‘Thank You' letter from Ianna Hawkins Owens, a Pocono Mountain 2004 graduate who received a scholarship from us.   She will now be starting on her PhD at Berkeley in California this fall. What a wonderful success story.

PATH Donation: Kelly called on Sharon Taylor, our guest from PATH to come to the podium and presented her with a check in the amount of $1500.00 we raised at our Duck Derby.
